It Spins!

My Diamond Scale turntable, that is. I just finished hooking it up to a New York Railway Supply Controller. About 10 minutes refreshing my memory on the directions and hookup sequence, 3 minutes fishing around for an extension cord, and the bridge was merrily spinning around at a nice slow, even pace. New London was an air-operated table with an "Armstrong" backup - so the real thing didn't spin all that fast. I noticed a couple of spots where the bridge was binding slightly - the bogie trucks on the end of the bridge were falling off the back edge of the rail, binding between the pit wall and the rail itself. That was easily fixed by adjusting the position of the bogies - one had to slide in, the other had to slide just a touch to one side. Now it's time to finish up the bridge, rig up the power feeds for the track, and complete the pretty details. One note - I mounted the Diamond Scale table and NYRS brackets on a square piece of 3/4" plywood large enough to allow me to cut a square hole in the layout surface and drop the entire assembly in place - seemed much easier on my knees and back than trying to install everything from below. Besides, it should be easier to take the table out for maintenance or repairs should that be necessary. Am I happy? Even my toes are smiling. Marty |
